Visibility Across All Digital Channels Opens Time for Internal Security Teams
Business Overview
One of the UK’s Big Four Banks that has approximately 30 million customers came to ZeroFox with the goal of gaining greater threat visibility across all digital channels. Based on the size of the organisation, the Bank was particularly concerned with impersonating accounts and targeted phishing attacks directed at their customers and employees.
Manually Monitoring the Threat Landscape
Before ZeroFox, the Bank had limited visibility into the breadth of digital channels outside of the major social networks, thereby inhibiting their ability to fully identify potential cyber-risks. Their previous solution provided unreliable alerting and lacked the remediation capabilities necessary to take action on the alerts received.
On any given day, analysts spent time manually reviewing each alert to ensure a threat was legitimate. When it came to taking action, the Bank’s previous solution did not deliver effective takedown capabilities. This left their digital security group responsible for largely investigating, requesting and following through each takedown themselves which required arduous time and resources.
Even with the combination of third-party automation technology and an analyst team, the Bank was facing blind spots on digital channels outside of social media. It was difficult to monitor the full threat landscape or even begin to determine their true risk without broader data source coverage. It was also difficult to measure the success of their current process and solution, or determine whether they were actually addressing the original problem they had looked to solve.
Visibility Across All Digital Channels Leads to More Insightful Analysis
The greatest improvements since partnering with ZeroFox came in the form of enhanced visibility and remediation of threats on digital channels. With full coverage across multiple data sources, the Bank can be confident they have the visibility and protection they need. The ability to identify risks beyond just social media allows them to fully understand their digital footprint and threat environment.
With ZeroFOX, we have a much better understanding of our digital footprint and a full view of our digital risk.
-Bank Cyber Security Manager
Their analyst team sees this as an opportunity for more in-depth analysis into previous gaps in their digital footprint. They are now able to reallocate time previously spent on manual alert review and remediation to more insightful threat trend analysis. With increased visibility, the team has been able to identify previously unseen digital threats that require attention. As new use cases have emerged, the Bank has worked directly with the ZeroFox team to ensure their ZeroFox platform is tailored to meet their specific needs, creating custom rules where necessary.
Support from the ZeroFox team has been critical to the successful start and ongoing progress that the Bank has made in terms of tackling digital threats. From triaging and escalating critical alerts, to issuing automated takedowns on the Bank’s behalf, ZeroFox Global Customer Operations has been instrumental in ensuring they have the visibility across all digital channels and protection they need to keep their brand, executives, and customers safe from dynamic cyber, brand and physical threats.
Expanding Use Cases to Fight Financial Fraud and Scams
The Bank is looking forward to expanding their use cases with ZeroFox internally, to include financial fraud, scam detection and more, to benefit other departments and further strengthen their overall security posture. With the additional data and intelligence that they are now able to gather from the ZeroFox Platform, they will be performing more trend and contextual analysis going forward. This means the Bank will be more strategic when making critical security decisions. With new digital threats emerging everyday, the Bank is confident they have the right partnership in place with ZeroFox to not only identify these threats, but quickly mitigate them with visibility across all digital channels.
